An Art Nouveau Kayserzin Sauce Boat, made in Dusseldorf, Germany

The Krefeld foundry run by Jean Kayser was devoted to mass production, whereby the designs originated from the Cologne studio of Englebert Kayser.

At the world exhibitions in Paris (1900), Turin (1902), Dusseldorf and St.Louis (1904), the company enjoyed great success with its "Kayserzinn" or "Kayser pewter", a special lead-free alloy of tin and silver distinguished by its lasting gleam - success which it owed to its outstanding designers: Karl Geyer (1858-1912), Hermann Fauser(1874-1947), Karl Berghof(1881-1967) and others, but their main designer and artistic director was Hugo LEVEN (1874-1956), a name to be compared with that of Liberty's main pewter designer Archibald Knox.

The decors they designed were inspired by both floral French Art Nouveau and by linear Jugendstil.

The boat is in an excellent condition, with just s small amount of "pitting" in the bowl, it measures 20 cm long, has a depth of 14 cm and stands 8 cm high.

An early 18th Century William and Mary Oak Chest on stand, The chest is "of the period", with large dovetails and elm lined drawers, consisting of two small drawers, over three graduated long drawers, and having two paneled ends.
The handles are later, the stand section drawer is later as the dovetails are different, although the drawer front matches the others for colour and patina.
The top of the chest is slightly lifted and on the rear corner there is a slight splitting, these pieces are not loose.
The base with the wavy x frame and the bun feet we believe are period, the piece of furniture may well be a "marriage", the chest being late 17th century and the base early 18th century.
Two of the drawer runners have been replaced with later oak ones, the overall condition is very good, and is an excellent period piece.
The finish has been obtained by wax and oil.
